Frequently asked questions
What is an electronic notary journal?
An electronic notary journal is a digital record book of your notarial acts. It replaces or backs up a paper journal, stores each entry with the signer’s details, ID, signature and fee, and protects entries from being changed after they are recorded.
Is an electronic notary journal legal in my state?
Most states that require a journal allow it to be electronic if it is tamper-evident. A few, such as California, Missouri, Nevada and Arizona, require a paper journal for paper documents. In those states, use an electronic journal as a backup and for your business records. Each state page lists the rule and its source.
How does US Notary Journal keep entries tamper-evident?
Each entry is locked when you finish it and linked to the one before it with a SHA-256 fingerprint. Locked entries cannot be edited or deleted. Mistakes are fixed with a dated addendum, and the Verify tool checks the whole chain.
How much does it cost?
A one-time $29 license, with a 14-day free trial. No monthly subscription and no limit on entries. Your journal stays readable and exportable even if you never buy.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and your journal syncs between them. Native iPhone and Android apps are coming soon.
Can signers sign on screen?
Yes. Signers sign with a finger or mouse, and you can record thumbprints where your state requires or allows them.
Can I export or print my journal?
Yes. Export to PDF, CSV or JSON at any time. Each export is fingerprinted and recorded in your audit log.
